SECTION I. TRACTOR AND DECK PREPARATION
WARNING
When handling the mower deck, be careful not
to cut yourself on the sharp blades.
Remove the top and break down the sides of the crate
to remove the deck assembly from the shipping
container. Cut the tie strap securing the front drive shaft
to the deck assembly. Remove all padding material from
the drive shafts. Refer to Figure 1.
NOTE: The mower deck front lift bracket/rod assembly
is shipped on the tractor. If not already done, cut the tie
strap securing the front lift bracket/rod assembly to the
front of the tractor frame. Pull the center of the tractor’s
quick latch rod downward to remove the lift bracket as-
sembly from the tractor.

NOTE: The chute deflector may have been factory in-
stalled. If so, skip to Step B.
A. DECK PREPARATION
WARNING
Never operate the mower deck without the chute
deflector installed and in the down position.
To aid in assembly, the chute deflector is shipped with
the torsion spring mounted and tie-strapped in place
(See Figure 2). Do not cut the tie strap until after the
chute deflector has been installed.
1. Mount the chute deflector on the right hand castor
channel hinge brackets, with the long end of the
spring flat against the top of the deck and pointing
toward the center of the deck (See Figure 2).
2. Insert the tapered end of the hinge pin into the
front mounting tab of the chute deflector. Then
drive the pin through the chute and hinge brack-
ets making sure it passes through the torsion
spring. DO NOT drive the pin fully into place now.
3. The torsion spring should hold the chute deflector
downward in the operating position. Lift the chute
deflector to check for spring tension. If very little
tension is felt, pull the hinge pin and load the
spring by turning the long end one turn in the
same direction as the spring coil windings.
Reinsert the hinge pin and drive completely into
the deflector
4. When the hinge pin is assembled correctly, the
end will be slightly past flush with the chute
deflector tab (See Figure 2). Cut and remove the
tie strap from the torsion spring.
